Amazon Page Recommender Widget screenshotO'Reilly's Brady Forrest saw something in the latest Amazon affiliate code links you may have missed; Amazon has rolled out a new featured called the Page Recommender Widget for for use on affiliate pages. The widget is designed to increase page views as well as time spent on a site by recommending other pages of the site that a user might be interested in viewing as well.

Along with recommending other pages of your site, the widget will serve ads that are as content-specific as possible, with both the products in the ads and the recommended pages changing throughout the site. Since the more content a site has, the more information the widget will have to work with, it seems like an ideal fit for blogs and other content-heavy web sites.

Privacy advocates may not be as enamored with the widget, however, as it will be tracking user behavior on each web site. With consumers still jumpy after Facebook's aborted Beacon program, site visitors may not be ready for a more personalized browsing experience. Then again, they might not even notice Amazon is tracking them.
