IBM's consumer computer division is not equal to Dell.So it ain't happening, this year atleast.

Dell announced the closing of an Austin manufacturing plant yesterday.

This is a good example of where performance for the stockholders is coming before American jobs. I am really sorry to see the Dell manufacturing powerhouse slip offshore like many others. It is too bad that Dell can't get some kind of stock dividend tax credit instrument that would encourage them to keep domestic production without hurting the stockholders. If they weren't a publicly traded company, tax credits to keep domestic production could have had some effect.

Aren't there any smart people around who can see what is happening to our jobs. The loss of our domestic manufacturing capability will be a sad reality as times goes on. I have some problems about Dell. Some lousy people have been creating policy there for a few years. But I can't stand to see the closure job loss statistics.

Not being a financial analyst, I cannot say for sure, but the loss of jobs will depress the economy which will have an effect on the stock market. It may be a zero sum game where the workers lose their jobs for nothing and the stockholders gain nothing behind the move. I wish Michael Dell had more cahones.
