Judgment on January 6, 2009: The community correctly predicted that Microsoft would not bid for part or all of Yahoo in the last nine weeks of 2008. Stay tuned. This love affair is far from over. -- The Industry Standard

Original prediction: Earlier this year the Industry Standard community bet right in predicting that YHOO would not accept MSFT’s overture.

But with Yahoo reporting a “crappy but not awful” Q3 result, concerns arising over their search advertising deal with Google  and their stock price hovering the $11-12 range, rumors are circulating about MSFT making another go at it with YHOO.

What form this deal takes remains to be seen as MSFT may only be interested in YHOO’s search business.

Prediction: Microsoft will announce a deal acquire all or part of Yahoo by end of 2008. The “part of YHOO” would need to equal $1 billion or more. For example, if Microsoft made an offer to acquire Yahoo’s search business (as previously discussed) for $4 billion the terms of the prediction would be fulfilled.

Just another rumor fueled by speculators. Announcement is probably Yahoo/AOL deal.

Somebody wanting a bit of a day-trade Yahoo bump, my guess. Good ol' Wall Street casino getting gamed for a day.

Interview with Yang: "Battelle asks if Yahoo is talking to Microsoft about any kind of deal. Yang says no. Battelle asks if Yahoo is buying AOL, Yang says “I can’t talk about that.”"

Internal memo about a 2pm PST announcement ... ROFL ..darn speculators messing around with markets. SEC should prosecute them.

Yang can't talk about it due to NDA/gag agreement and due diligence process. It is almost a given that Yahoo will now absorb AOL given no Google deal and no MSFT deal. Better get in http://www.thestandard.com/predictions/yahoo-acquires-aol prediction before it happens :)

Unless market dynamics changes significantly, this is becoming unlikely as Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer dismissed speculations that it is interested in acquiring Yahoo Inc.

Microhoo did not happen. Unfavorable judgment can now be rendered.
