Research in Motion (RIMM) stock has been battered down to $60 after hitting a peak of $148/sh recently in June. All of this despite showing increased revenue, new clamshell and new TouchScreen and continued success in support of corporate/enterprise email from/to wireless device. Faced with increased competition of iPhone and Android-based devices, there is a rumor that Microsoft may have its eye on RIM.

PREDICTION: Microsoft to announce an offer for RIM by end of March 2009. The offer need not be accepted by RIM nor pass the scrutiny of regulators (i.e. DOJ, FCC, FTC). A favorable judgment can be made even If the offer is made only for email applications and not the entire company.

David, I suggest that this prediction should not be favorable if the offer is only for email applications and not the entire company. An offer for email applications would need to be clarified as this is not M&A really but just a business arrangement. I believe that Microsoft might already be licensing some of the blackberry apps already.
