This is a prediction that the USB 3.0 specification will be released in 2008.

Wikipedia has it that:

"On September 18, 2007, Pat Gelsinger demonstrated USB 3.0 at the Intel Developer Forum. USB 3.0 is targeted at ten times the current bandwidth, reaching roughly 4.8 Gbit/s (600MB/s) by utilizing two additional high-speed differential pairs for "Superspeed" mode, and with the possibility for optical interconnect. The USB 3.0 specification is planned to be released early in the second half of 2008, and commercial products are expected to arrive in 2009 or 2010."

Note that commercial products using USB 3.0 need not be available in 2008 for this prediction to be judged favorably.

Trouble brewing among the players according to Engadget

Did a little more digging .. turns out that there are two USB 3.0 related specifications:

1) USB 3.0 specification (developed by USB 3.0 Promoter Group)
2) USB Interface Specification (developed by Intel)

Of the two specifications, a draft of interface specification was released by Intel (appeasing the folks like AMD, NVIDIA whom have threaten to develop their own). According to Intel, a revised draft of the same interface specification is scheduled by end of 2008.

The USB 3.0 specification has yet to be released but the adoption of the interface specification is critical towards forward progress of the USB 3.0 specification.

As such, judgement criteria has NOT been met for this prediction.
